ABOUT
Nina Rike Springer Born in 1976 in Klagenfurt, lives and works in Vienna. Her artistic practice is grounded in personal perception and an interest in human behavior. Drawing on gestures from everyday life, body language, objects, and spaces, she explores moments of ambiguity, contradiction, and subtle dislocation that can emerge from ordinary situations. Rather than addressing social structures directly, her work is shaped by an awareness of inequality and the coexistence of differing perspectives. Central to her practice is the idea of ambiguity tolerance—the capacity to hold conflicting meanings and experiences simultaneously—as a necessary condition for visual dialogue and poetic expression. 2007 Degree in Art 2001–2007 Photography and Media Art, University of Applied Arts Vienna 2005–2006 Photography and Media Art, Bauhaus-Universität Weimar 1996–2000 Psychology, University of Vienna 2012-2013 Lektorin an der Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien Awards and Grants (selected) 2025 – Project Grant, Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, Public Service and Sport 2024 – Working Grant of the Province of Carinthia 2018 – Grant – ZF Art Foundation, Friedrichshafen 2016 – Outstanding Artist Award (Artistic Photography) 2013 – Promotion Award of the State of Carinthia 2012 – State Grant for Fine Arts 2011 – Bank Austria Art Award Carinthia 2011 – ASIFA Award – Best Austrian Animation 2010 – Content Award Vienna (Berlinale) 2007 – Kunsthalle Wien Prize 2006 – Ursula Blickle Video Award 2005 – Fred Adlmüller Preis, Emanuel und Sophie Fohn Förderstipendium Collections Bank Austria Kunstforum Wien, Austria Belvedere, Austria Erste Bank Group Art Collection, Austria Kunstsammlung Arbeiterkammer Oberösterreich, Austria Museum Moderner Kunst Kärnten, Austria Republic of Austria Art Collection (Rupertinum), Austria Sammlung im Museum Moderner Kunst Kärnten, Austria Sammlung Kollitsch, Austria Ursula Blickle Video Archive, Austria Vienna Municipal Art Collection, Austria
